BTWSC: African History Speaks

Anne Marie Twumasi, 14 and students of a documentary detailing African History before trans-Atlantic enslavement were awarded for their work.

Guests to the well-attended BTWSC and Akoben Awards Portal to African History/African History Speaks BHM event held at the Council Chamber included Harrow Mayor Cllr, John Nickolay, the Mayoress Cllr Joyce Nickolay, elected representatives, members of voluntary and community organisations, teachers and Harrow students.

Guest speakers Kwaku of the Black Music Congress, Onyeka of Narrative Eye and Paul Obinna of Hogarth Blake gave short overviews of African history going back thousands of years. Kwaku underscored the fact that far from being a “dark continent”, Africa was the cradle of civilisation, with empires, long-standing architecture, plus written scripts dating back several centuries. The event included the screening of a short documentary on African history before trans-Atlantic enslavement made by BTWSC and Hatch End High School students.

Excellence: Anne Marie Twumasi

Awarded

The Mayor presented the participating students with a certificate in recognition of their work on the documentary. Dr. NDK Asante presented 14 year old Anne Marie Twumasi with a prize for her entry in the Africa Before Enslavement writing competition
